The city of Sandy Springs is a 38 square mile area of North Fulton County only a few miles north of Atlanta. It’s a high density affluent area with lots of fine dining and shopping – yet the city also boasts some 950 acres of parks and green space. Morgan Falls Overlook and and Abernathy Greenway Artpark are two of my favorite spots!
Large employers including Mercedes Benz, IBM, Cisco, UPS, Northside Hospital, St Josephs Hospital are all located in Sandy Springs and it’s a short commute to other Atlanta commercial centers. Housing prices are high, but original ranch homes on big lots are still plentiful for a moderate price.
Natural springs (located at what is today Heritage Green Park) attracted first Native Amerians and then settlers to the area that is now Sandy Springs. Atlanta’s growth in the 1950s and 1960’s included rapid grown in Sandy Springs, including the completion of I285 and the beginning of GA400. Efforts to incorporate as a city began in 1966 and were finally realized in 2005. City Springs, opened in 2018, has become the hub of the city. It includes a performing arts center, city green, retail, dining and meeting/event space.
