In 1864, General Sherman carried out his historic March to the Sea, destroying just about everything on his path including much of Atlanta.

I’ve always lamented Atlanta’s relative lack of historic architecture compared to some of our other east coast cities and have always been a little envious of Savannah which was spared as a Christmas gift to President Lincoln.
